About Little Mouse's First Book of Colors
After writing my first two books, PLAY! and Scary Halloween Costumes , I decided to create a toddler book that engages the youngest children in reading fun.
Little Mouse's First Book of Colors  is a first reader book for your child that features repetitive language and picture clues. This book not only helps your child learn their colors, but it also helps in developing the necessary language skills to assist in learning to read independently later on. 
The characters are friendly and the colors are vivid. I chose common items found in daily life for each color to keep the learning going throughout the day after reading.

You may have heard of the 1000 Books Before Kindergarten program and thought to yourself, "How do we read that many books? There's no time." But when you really consider that 10-20 minutes of reading with your child per day is all that it takes to get to the goal of 1000 books, it seems less daunting. 
Little Mouse's First Book of Colors features repetitive language on each page to introduce each color. The color words are printed in the same color it names. This language and color coding helps your child develop recognition of both. If you read this book while pointing to the words, you will assist your child in developing high frequency word recognition too.

Labeling items assists early reading
According to the Carnegie Stout Public Library post about Six Essential Early Literacy Skills, labeling common objects with text and language is critical to learning to read.
Little Mouse's First Book of Colors labels one common object and one common food for each color. Reading this book and pairing it with a pictured snack is a great way to get your child excited about eating colorful foods, too.
